Morocco’s Neo Motors launches its cars in the market

Morocco’s Neo Motors said it released its cars in the market making the first delivery of a first car manufacturing company with Moroccan capital.

Morocco is already Africa’s top car manufacturer thanks to investments by French carmakers Renault and Peugeot.

Speaking at a ceremony marking the first car deliveries, Nassim Belkhayat, Neo Motors’s CEO, said the factory was part of a push to meet Morocco’s industrial sovereignty.

Neo Motors plans to expand its existing factory near Rabat to meet what project owners describe as rising demand.

The ceremony was attended by industry minister Ryad Mezzour who said Neo Motors was an example of productive investment by Moroccan enterprises.

Last May, King Mohammed VI lifted the curtain on Neo Motors’ prototype and another hydrogen-powered car by a different manufacturer.

The event should serve as a spur for Moroccan capital to engage in productive investments that build on already existing eco-systems.

Industry represents some 25% of Morocco’s GDP with the automotive sector in particular topping manufactured exports in 2022 with 111 billion dirhams or 11 billion dollars, up 33%.

The prototype already received a go-ahead to drive the cars by the country’s road safety authority.

The unveiling of the two prototypes takes place in a context Morocco seeks a new industrial strategy to build on the results of the industrial acceleration plan which helped Morocco become an African and Mediterranean powerhouse in the aerospace sector as well.
