Tunisia arrests five European nationals for terrorism
An investigative judge in Tunisia has convicted five people from a European country for belonging to a terror group after investigations at an apartment led to the seizure of fire arms, drogue and foreign passports, Tunisie Numerique reports.
The judge from the country’s anti-terrorism service ordered imprisonment of five arrested two weeks ago at Baraket Essahe, in the coastal city of Hammamet.
Three of men were first arrested in car at the entrance of Baraket Essahe, following tips that they entered the North African country illegally.
A search of their car revealed the presence of drogue. The two others who were waiting for them in a rented residence, were subsequently arrested. Security forces discovered during a search of the house some fire arms and foreign passports.
Tunisia since 2015 has been under state of emergency in the wake of a string of terror attacks in 2015 that claimed the lives of dozens of people, mainly foreign tourists.
Late October 2023, counterterrorism security forces arrested in Zaghouan governorate 12 men forming a terror cell allegedly preparing terror attacks. The security forces seized cells phones, laptops as well as electronic gadgets during the arrest operation.
