UN: Rabat reiterates call for cessation of military aggressions in Mideast

Morocco has reiterated its urgent call at the UN for the cessation of military aggressions in the Middle East to avoid the sufferings of a conflict undermining peace and stability in the region.

Addressing the special session of UN General Assembly convening in NY on the situation in Palestine, Morocco’s ambassador to the UN Omar Hilale said the region has been rocked lately by acts of violence against civilians and their properties including hospitals, violating international law and international humanitarian law.

He cited in this regard the military operations in the Gaza Strip, noting that this situation is a major source of concern for Morocco which continues to call for de-escalation and halting bloodshed & military aggression.
The Kingdom stresses the urgent need to protect all civilians in accordance with the principles of international law, said the Ambassador, calling for allowing humanitarian aid to reach the Gaza Strip inhabitants.

Morocco opposes the forced displacement or expulsion of Palestinians from their lands, endangering the security of neighboring countries, said the diplomat, renewing his country’s call for launching genuine peace talks based on the two-State solution, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Al-Quds as its capital on the borders of June 4, 1967.

Following the “Peace Summit” held in Cairo on October 21, Morocco and eight Arab countries issued a joint declaration calling on the UN Security Council to engage the parties to the conflict to an immediate and lasting ceasefire, and to guarantee a rapid, safe and continuous access of humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip, said the diplomat.

Upon the instructions of King Mohammed VI, President of the Al-Quds Committee, Morocco sent an emergency humanitarian aid to the Palestinian populations, recalled the Ambassador, saying the move shows the Royal constant and steadfast commitment to the Palestinian cause.
