Mauritania, IsDB ink 2024-2026 support strategy framework agreement

Mauritania and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) signed Monday October 23 a new support strategy framework agreement under which the Saudi Arabia-based institution will provide further assistance to the North African country in the 2024-2026 period.

Abdessalam ould Mohamed Saleh, Mauritania’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development and the IsDB President Muhammad Al Jasser signed the deal in capital Nouakchott.

Saleh said the agreement will expand partnership and takes it to new horizons. For Jasser, the deal aims to establish a partnership between the bank and Mauritania, focusing on forward-looking programs.

The framework agreement will touch on several areas including support for the Mauritanian government’s efforts to combat poverty, support for the private sector, in addition to the development of Islamic finance and capacity building in agriculture and other economic sectors.

The signing took place during Jasser’s two-day visit to the country. During his stay, the bank President toured several IsDB-financed projects which include a multi-million-dollar cardiology center financed at 90 percent by IsDB.
