King Mohammed VI appoints Fouzi Lekjaa Chairman of the World Cup 2030 Committee

King Mohammed VI has appointed this Thursday Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) Chairman of the World Cup 2030 Committee, the Royal Office said in a statement.

The appointment came during an audience the Sovereign granted to Lekjaa who doubles as Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget.

The appointment follows a vote by the FIFA Council, which unanimously selected the Morocco-Spain-Portugal bid as the sole candidate to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

During the audience, the King expressed his wish and willingness that the organization of this global competition be driven by a strong ambition supported by a project that can make this edition a great success.

Following the audience, Lekjaa said in a statement to the media that Morocco’s hosting of World Cup 2030, alongside Spain and Portugal, is the crowning achievement of the strategic development vision spearheaded by King Mohammed VI for more than two decades.

The announcement by the Sovereign to Moroccans of the news of the organization of the World Cup 2030 was a historic moment greeted with joy and happiness by the entire Moroccan people, said Lekjaa.

“Today, we are called upon to redouble our efforts and forge ahead to achieve the best World Cup that history has ever known”, as the Sovereign affirmed in his message during the presentation in Kigali, Rwanda, of the CAF Award for Excellence for the year 2022.

“We are all determined to translate the royal ambition to make this global competition a great success,” insisted the Chairman of the World Cup 2030 Committee.
