Military top commander before martial Court in DRC
The martial Court of the Democratic Republic of Congo is set to judge the commander of the 22nd military region of the Central African country for stealing 120 tons of copper cathode belonging to Tenke Fungurume Mining SA, one of the country’s largest copper and cobalt producers.
The commander, who has not been named, has been suspected for stealing the shipment after it disappeared in July 2023 at the border town of Kasumbalesa (Haut-Katanga Province). And sent to the headquarters of the 22nd military region, “Radio Okapi” reports citing Hubert Tshiswaka, a prominent human rights activist.
The shipment later went missing. “Mining investors must not be discouraged by acts of theft committed by those who are supposed to protect the Republic and the people”, Tshiswaka told the radio.
Tenke Fungurume Mining SA is a subsidiary of Chinese mining giant CMOC Group Limited, the largest molybdenum producer in Mainland China and among the world’s largest companies in the field.
