African MPs reaffirm respect for African countries’ sovereignty, territorial Integrity

Chairmen of foreign affairs committees of African parliaments have reaffirmed their respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of African countries.

This came in the final declaration adopted by the African parliamentary colloquium on “African parliamentary cooperation in the face of pressing challenges” held in Rabat.

The MPs expressed in the final declaration their unwavering commitment to democracy and pluralism, and emphasized the crucial role of African parliaments in advancing sustainable development throughout the continent.

They urged African parliaments to fully embrace their responsibility as communication and consultation mechanisms that can unite the people of Africa, emphasizing that relying solely on government action is insufficient to protect the continent from security fragility.

The participating MPs expressed their unwavering dedication to advancing joint African parliamentary action.

The colloquium, hosted by the Moroccan House of Representatives July 6-7, focused on three key topics: “the parliamentary contribution to promoting peace and security in Africa,” “the challenges of food security in Africa,” and “the role of foreign affairs committees in consolidating pan-African cooperation.”
