88% of Moroccan professional football players are based in Europe
A new study showed that Morocco has 689 football players in different championships abroad, 88% of them in Europe.
The study, conducted by the Moroccan football federation, FRMF, and the council for the Moroccan community abroad, CCME, was unveiled at a ceremony attended by national squad coach Walid Regrarui, and players of the national team.
Most Moroccan players play in French championships, followed by the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Italy, the UK, Denmark and Turkey.
Moroccan players abroad have an average age of 24 and a total market value of 600 million dollar, said the study, which urged more efforts to spot and support emerging talents.
The study also highlighted a balance in positions between attackers, defenders, and midfielders, although it noted that there are only 25 Moroccan goalkeepers in professional leagues abroad.
