Israel’s recognition of Moroccanness of Sahara, just a matter of time
More and more influential Israeli politicians and senior personalities are pushing their government and country to officially recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over its entire Saharan territory following in the footsteps of Washington.
All experts say :“it is just a matter of time” in view of the solid cooperation ties that are gaining momentum in all sectors following the normalization of relations between Morocco and Israel in 2020 within the frame of the US-brokered Abraham Accords.
Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana who is on a visit to Morocco said on Thursday that Israel should move forward with recognizing Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara.
“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again now, as Speaker of the Knesset, very clearly: Israel should move forward towards this goal of recognizing the Moroccan sovereignty of the Sahara, as does our closest ally, the United States of America”, Mr. Ohana told the press, following a meeting in Rabat with Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi Alami.
“As a descendant of this blessed land, I am deeply aware of the importance of recognizing the Moroccanness of the Sahara. […] It’s not just me saying it, I think history says it too”, added Mr. Ohana
He called for strengthening relations with Morocco in the fields of agriculture, tourism, security, water, desalination, renewable energies, scientific research…
In a press statement made following his meeting with Moroccan foreign minister Nasser Bourita, Mr. Ohana commended the Moroccan King’s courageous leadership in favor of peace in the Middle east and worldwide.
“Once again, I would like to take this opportunity to salute the courageous leadership of King Mohammed VI in strengthening relations between nations, establishing peace and promoting Moroccan values,” said Mr. Ohana.
His visit to Morocco comes as the Israeli army is participating in the ongoing annual African Lion exercise, one of major military drills in Africa organized by Morocco and the United States.
