Tanger Med Port, world’s 4th best performing container port- WB ranking
The World Bank issued its ranking of the globe’s best performing container ports, giving the fourth place to Tanger Med, which has outperformed African and Mediterranean counterparts.
The report dubbed Container Port Performance Index (CPPI), compares operational performance across ports using 2022 data.
Morocco’s Tanger Med port was only outperformed in the ranking by China’s Yangshan, Oman’s Salalah and UAE’s Khalifa.
Maritime transport forms the foundation of global trade and the manufacturing supply chain. More than 80 percent of global merchandise trade (by volume) is transported via sea routes.
A considerable and increasing proportion of this volume, accounting for about 35 percent of total volumes and over 60 percent of commercial value, is carried in containers, according to the World Bank’s report.
Tanger Med port handled 7.5 million containers in 2022, up 6% from 2021, fostering its leadership as the Mediterranean largest port.
