Morocco to receive 6th Canadair firefighter, two more to be delivered soon
Morocco reinforces its firefighting capacities with the reception of a 6th Canadair water bomber, while two others will be delivered soon, defense news portal FAR Maroc said.
Hit by the worst drought in decades and the hottest year in over four decades, Morocco fought 500 wildfires that affected over 22,000 hectares last year.
This year, the country announced a budget of 200 million dirhams ($20 million) to fight wildfires in another summer season that augurs hot.
Morocco remains the only African country to be equipped with Canadair firefighters. Globally 153 Canadair planes are operated by Canada, the US, Spain, Italy, Greece, Portugal, Malaysia, Indonesia, Croatia, and France.
