American Jewish Committee hails Moroccan King’s protection of religious minorities

The American Jewish Committee has paid tribute to King Mohammed VI for his protection of the rights of religious minorities in the North African Kingdom.

“We commend the role of the King as Commander of the Faithful, for His protection of religious minorities in Morocco”, said Jason Isaacson, AJC’s Chief Policy Officer after his meeting Wednesday in Rabat with Moroccan top diplomat Nasser Bourita.

“The role of HM the King, Commander of the Faithful, in protecting religious freedom in Morocco and the Jewish community, which has been an integral part of the history of the Kingdom for centuries, is widely recognized both in the United States and by Jewish people around the world,” he told reporters.

“AJC is a strong supporter of strengthened relationship between the United States and Morocco,” added Mr.Jason Isaacson, praising the development of relations between Morocco and Israel with which the North African Kingdom shares natural and familial bonds and common strategic goals.

The American Jewish Committee also strongly supports Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire Sahara, he stressed, saying that his talks with Bourita covered several issues including U.S.-Moroccan cooperation in the fight against terrorism and latest developments on the regional & international scene.

This is the third visit by AJC to the North African Kingdom since the signing of the Abraham Accords in December 2020 between the United States, Israel, and Morocco.

Prior their meeting with Moroccan FM, members of the AJC delegation conferred separately with Speakers of the House of Representatives and the House of Advisors.
