UK Parliament: Morocco showcases inclusive development of Saharan Provinces

Several British lawmakers were briefed earlier this week at the UK Parliament on the social and economic development achieved in Morocco’s southern provinces, and on the autonomy plan offered by Morocco for the Sahara under its sovereignty.

After presentations made by member of Dakhla Oued-Eddahab regional council Mrs. Ghalla Bahiya, and Morocco’s Ambassador to UK Hakim Hajoui, the British MPs commended the pragmatic autonomy plan offered by Morocco for the southern provinces and the royal vision which spurred an impressive development in the Sahara that deserves backing and applauding.

In her presentation, Mrs. Ghalla Bahiya, member of Dakhla Oued-Eddahab regional council, said Morocco invested heavily in its southern provinces enabling the region to build and boast modern industrial units, technology poles, hospitals, schools, roads, ports, solar & wind power plants, turning the Moroccan Sahara into an attractive regional investment hub.

The Moroccan diplomat Hajoui on his part focused on the huge investment injected in the Saharan territories, explaining that the investment benefited the local inhabitants and contributed to improving their living conditions.

He also spoke about the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco under its sovereignty for a lasting and peaceful resolution of the Sahara regional conflict, saying the Moroccan plan is the only realistic and feasible solution to the Sahara dispute.

The diplomat said the support of the United Kingdom to the Moroccan autonomy plan is essential to advance the settlement of the Sahara conflict and strengthen regional peace and stability.
