Over 20,000 march in Paris in support of Kabylie independence

More than 20,000 people took to the streets of Paris in support of Kabylie independence from the yoke of the military regime in Algiers, waving Kabyle flags and chanting slogans denouncing Algerian repression.

The march was held on the day of the Amazigh Spring commemorating the Kabyle struggle to emancipate from the grip of the Algerian army which killed at least 160 Kabylians in 2001 after they demanded recognition of their cultural and linguistic specificities.

The demonstration was organized by Kabyle independence movement MAK in Paris with similar marches in Montreal and San Fransico where a significant Kabyle diaspora lives.

The Algerian regime has classified MAK as a terrorist group and cracked down on sympathizers in the restive Kabylie region sending scores to jail.

MAK leader Ferhat Mhenni received capital punishment along with 49 Kabyle independence leaders.

The march as usual was ignored by pro-establishment French media as President Macron prepares to host the civilian puppet of the Algerian army, President Tebboune.

Meanwhile, Algerian security services banned any march in the Kabylie region and cancelled a match in Tizi Ouzou- the hot bed of Kabylie dissent- to avert a mass protest.
