Morocco’s Arma seeks African expansion
Like many state and private Moroccan companies, waste management company Arma said it plans to set up a waste management plant in Abidjan where it is finalizing deals with suppliers.
The company’s CEO Youssef Ahizoun told Reuters the plastic waste recycling plant would be ready within few months.
Arma investment would be the first by a Moroccan company operating in the sector of waste management.
Moroccan private and public firms have rolled out investments in different sectors in Sub-Saharan Africa, notably in the fields of mining, telecoms, agriculture, fertilizers, banks, and tourism.
Ahizoun said Arma is set to reduce its carbon footprint, mentioning the recent acquisition of an electric waste collection heavy truck, the first in Africa and the Arab World.
However, the full electrification of the fleet requires cheaper prices for such trucks, he said.
Arma is the main waste manager in many Moroccan big cities including the capital Rabat.
