Morocco, second largest industrial powerhouse in Africa- AfDB

The African Development Bank AfDB ranked Morocco the second largest industrial country in the African continent with a narrow margin behind South Africa.

Moroccan industrial exports accounted for 21% of Africa’s manufactured exports, widening the gaps with North African peers such as Egypt and Tunisia.

Morocco has developed in the previous decade the industrial acceleration plan which consisted in encouraging investors and local suppliers.

The automotive sector, in particular, had topped Morocco’s industrial exports over the past few years totaling 111 billion dirhams last year, up 33%.

Algeria made it to the 11th place underscoring the country’s dependence on hydrocarbons exports and its failure to diversify the economy.
