Morocco & the Netherlands join forces against transnational crimes

Morocco and the Netherlands have agreed to strengthen further their cooperation ties to counter the threats and challenges posed by criminal activities of cross-border trafficking networks, including people smuggling.

The agreement was reached during the meeting held Tuesday in Rabat between Moroccan Minister of the Interior Abdelouafi Laftit and Dutch minister of Migration Eric Van Der Burg.

The two ministers hailed the positive results yielded by Joint Permanent Migration Group, set up last year, leading to better coordination regarding all issues related to migration.

Laftit highlighted in this regard Morocco’s efforts made in border control and fight against all forms of transnational crime, affirming that the North African Kingdom plays a key role in regional security.

Triangular partnership (Morocco/Netherlands/Africa) is an efficient tool to combat human trafficking through the appropriate training and the reinforcement of the capacities and technical support of partner countries in the South.

The two ministers welcomed the good prospects opened up in the field of regular migration and circular mobility, underlining the positive role and importance of the Moroccan community residing in the Netherlands.

According to Laftit, all Moroccan unaccompanied minors duly identified should be repatriated in full respect of their rights, their best interests and the international commitments.
