Four Moroccans confirmed dead in devastating earthquake in Türkiye
Official spokesperson for the Government Mustapha Baitas confirmed that 4 Moroccans died in the devastating earthquake that hit Türkiye on Monday.
The death toll in southeastern Türkiye and northern Syria has exceeded 18,000 according to latest reports released Thursday.
Although the chances to unearth survivors are decreasing more than 72 hours after the first earthquake on Monday, rescuers remain engaged in a race against time to save lives.
Last Wednesday, the crisis cell created by the Moroccan Embassy in Ankara received around 1,300 calls from Moroccans residing in Turkey and their families, said Baitas.
“The problem in the affected area is that the telephone network has been severely impacted. And this is one of the difficulties that the crisis unit faces in receiving calls. But all efforts are deployed to assist the Moroccans in Türkiye,” added Baitas.
The Moroccan embassy in Ankara announced on Tuesday evening the identification of the first Moroccan victim, a 51-year-old woman.
