Morocco’s King sends message of condolences to Turkish President following devastating earthquake
King Mohammed VI sent a message of condolences and compassion to the President of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, following the violent earthquake that struck the southeastern regions of his country, leaving thousands of casualties and injuries.
In this message, the King expressed sadness at the news of the terrible earthquakes which struck the southeastern part of Türkiye, causing many casualties and extensive damage.
“On this sad occasion, I send you and the grieving families, on my own behalf and on behalf of the Moroccan people, our sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy following this natural disaster,” the Sovereign pointed out in his message.
“We share your grief and wish to convey the Kingdom of Morocco’s solidarity and compassion in these difficult circumstances,” the King stated further, wishing the injured a speedy recovery and praying that Almighty God spare Türkiye any further misfortune.
The death toll from the devastating earthquake that struck southeastern Türkiye and northern Syria has exceeded 5,000, according to the latest estimates.
Those numbers are still expected to rise as rescuers comb through mountains of rubble in freezing, snowy weather.
Morocco’s embassies in Ankara and Damascus set up crisis cells to help members of the Moroccan community in these regions.
Following this tremor, Türkiye’s worst disaster in decades, several states and organizations, including the US, EU, Ukraine, and the UN, have expressed readiness to provide assistance to the states and populations affected.
