Will Mauritania fall into Iran’s orbit after it got foothold in Algeria & Polisario Camps?

The Iranian regime, which has already established a foothold in Algeria & Polisario-controlled camps, is expanding its sway over the region after having spread death and mayhem throughout the Middle East and the world.

Now, the Iranians seek to subjugate Mauritania in a bid to encircle Morocco, U.S. major ally and partner in the region. The Algerian Generals, de facto rulers, have made a pact with the Devil to counter Rabat’s growing economic and military power, letting a state sponsor of terrorism to deploy its nets in the region, threatening its stability.

Few days ago, Iranian Foreign minister Hossein Amir-Abdellahian visited Nouakchott with a high-ranking delegation to bolster relations with Mauritania in “all fields”. But the hidden agenda of the mullah regime is taking control over this Maghreban country and over the Sahel region, home to notorious extremists and terrorist organizations.

The visit comes two weeks after Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi sent a written message to his Mauritanian peer Mohammed Ould Ghazouani inviting him to visit Tehran.

Amir-Abdellahian’s visit to Mauritania coincides with similar trips made by Iranian diplomats to member countries of the G5 (Burkina Faso, Chad, Mauritania, Niger and Mali).

The Tehran-Algiers axis seeks to gain foothold in the instable and conflict-ridden Sahel region amid a decline of the French influence. Many Sahel countries are turning to Russia and Wagner group to combat terrorism.

However, some experts say that stabilizing Sahel countries has never been the Wagner Group’s objective. Instead, the mercenaries seek access to valuable commodities, including gold, diamonds, uranium, and other precious resources.

According to the 2022 Global Terrorism Index, 48 percent of all terrorism deaths worldwide occurred in sub-Saharan Africa, with three of the top 10 countries with the largest increases in terrorism-related deaths located in the Sahel: Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger. The region also remains awash in weapons, with the proliferation of the smuggling and trafficking of small arms and light weapons further destabilizing the Sahel.

The Iranian regime wants a slice of the African pie. It uses its nuclear program to extort the international community and threaten regional and international security.

In Algiers, the military junta sets an alliance with the Iranians in their military showdown with neighboring Morocco amidst press reports that the Algeria is preparing for a military confrontation with Rabat.
Algerian President Abdelmajid Tebboune chaired lately the High Security Council meeting which comes few days after the visit paid to Paris by army chief Said Chengriha to purchase weapons from France to diversify its military arsenal.

Washington had called on the Algerian regime to avoid funding war in Ukraine through the purchase of Russian weapons, threatening to impose sanctions as demanded by a group of U.S. Democrat and Republican Congressmen.

“There is no sugarcoating it, Algeria’s growing relationship with Russia poses a threat to every nation across the globe” said Rep. Lisa McClain.

“Just last year, Algeria finalized an arms deal of over $7 billion with Russia, which included an advanced Russian fighter aircraft that have never been sold before”, added McClain in a letter signed by 27 lawmakers.

“The United States needs to send a clear message to the world that the support for Vladimir Putin, and his regime’s barbaric war efforts will not be tolerated,” said the U.S. congressmen.

Algeria’s connections with Moscow and particularly the schemes it hatched with Teheran to destabilize the region has prompted Washington to warn the Algerian regime against any aggression against its regional allies.
