Kinshasa to host IX Francophone Games
Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), will host from July 28 to August 06 this year, the IX Games of the Francophonie, the international organization representing countries and regions where French is spoken or is customary language.
The sport event will bring together the best young artistic and sporting talents of the organization. 32 countries are expected to participate, with a total 1,500 participants aged between 18 and 35.
The Congolese capital was chosen as host in July 2019 during an extraordinary session.
The event was set to take place last year but the African country requested its postponement due of the health emergency in place owing to the pandemic.
The first edition of the games took place in Rabat, Casablanca (both in Morocco, 1989). Other cities that previously hosted the sport event include Paris (France, 1994), Antananarivo (Madagascar, 1997), Ottawa and Hull (both in Canada, 2000), Niamey (Niger, 2005), Beirut (Lebanon, 2009), Nice (France, 2013) and Abidjan (Cote d’Ivoire, 2017).
