Newly-opened jewelry museum in Rabat shatters all records in terms of number of visitors

The National Finery Museum which was inaugurated on jan.7 at the Kasbah of Oudayas in Rabat has shattered all records in terms of number of visitors. The museum actually received nearly 40,000 visitors in less than eight days after its opening to the public.

The museum translates the Royal vision that promotes culture and arts, and highlights the national cultural heritage in all its diversity, said a statement by the National Foundation of Museums (FNM).

The new scenography gives a complete idea on the geography of Morocco, including the cultural specificities of each region, the contact areas, the history of the country as well as the workshops of production of the jewelry pieces, said the statement, adding that the collection exhibited showcases pieces of great cultural, historical and aesthetic value.

The FNM added that King Mohammed VI was willing to share with Moroccans as well as with foreign visitors his collection of Berber jewelry and rare pieces, which highlight the innovative and distinguished character of the national genius and its ancestral know-how.

The jewelry exhibited in the museum are displayed in various exhibition halls, dedicated to “The historical development of the finery and the chain of manufacture”; “The history of Moroccan costume”; “The male finery and harness”; “The Amazigh jewelry”; and “The regional specificities of the main production centers of urban jewelry”.

The temporary exhibition hall of the Museum is currently displaying the works of three Moroccan designers, namely Tamy Tazi, Zhor Raïs and Albert Oiknine.
