Interpol arrests wanted Mozambican kidnapping master in South Africa
Police in South Africa has announced the arrest of wanted 50-year-old Mozambican suspected to be the mastermind of a lucrative kidnapping ring for ransom.
Esmael Malude Ramos Nangy is wanted in his country and by Interpol for organizing kidnappings for ransom which can reach several million dollars in the country affected by the phenomenon for the past 20 years, AFP reports.
The abductions haunted Mozambique for 20 years, targeting in particular businessmen and their families. South African police said in a statement Nangy was arrested during a raid on Saturday evening “at an address in Centurion”, near the capital Pretoria.
The police seized during the raid a firearm, cartridges, five cell phones, as well as several bank cards and Sim cards. Nangy will appear in court. Meanwhile his home country has applied for his extradition.
