Morocco to hosts next Abraham Accords Summit in March

Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen has announced that the next Abraham accords summit will be held in Morocco in March 2023.

The U.S. had brokered in 2020 the Abraham Accords for the normalization of relations between Israel, Morocco, the UAE and Bahrain. The signatories pledge to strengthen peace in the Middle East and around the world based on mutual understanding and coexistence, as well as respect for human dignity and freedom, including religious freedom.

Following the normalization of relations between Rabat and Tel-Aviv in 2020, cooperation between the two countries is gaining momentum in all sectors including defense, investment, agriculture, tourism, energy…, while Moroccan and Israeli officials have intensified high-level contacts, talks and exchange of visits.

In September 2021, ex-Israeli foreign minister Yaer Lapid hosted a virtual meeting with his peers from Morocco, the UAE, Bahrain and U.S. to celebrate the first anniversary of Abraham accords. They marked the 2nd anniversary of the peace deal in Sept.2023.

Commenting the event, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has hailed the “transformational changes” generated by these Accords which “have led to new forms of cooperation and regional integration in the Middle East and beyond”.
“We are committed to advancing and expanding upon these agreements between Israel and Arab and Muslim-majority countries to enhance regional security, prosperity, and peace.”
