Tunisia: 10-year in prison sentence handed to citizen for calling President putschist

The criminal division specialized in the fight against terrorism of a Tunisia count condemned a citizen to 10 years in prison for calling President Kais Saied “Putschist” in a social media post, Business News reports.

The defendant, whose name was not revealed, was arrested in August this year, the media adds citing his defense team.

Ines Harrath, member of the defense team, reportedly indicated that they will appeal this judgment, considering the fact that the change in the qualification of the facts has become serious and frightening.

The man has clean criminal record.

Kais Saied, in July 2021, seized all major powers and suspended the parliament before dissolving it later. The move has been condemned at home and branded a coup.
