World Cup2022: Morocco Make History, several Heads of State congratulate king Mohammed VI

Morocco has become the first Arab and African nation to qualify for the semi-finals of the world cup after beating Portugal 1-0 in a pulsating game played Saturday at Al-Thumama stadium.

After the final whistle of the referee, several heads of state congratulated, during telephone calls, King Mohammed VI, for the Moroccan team’s historic qualification.

King Mohammed VI thus received telephone calls from the President of Gabon, Ali Bongo Ondimba, from the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, from the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al -Thani, King Abdallah II of Jordan, the President of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, and the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed Ben Zayed Al Nahyane.

The calling Heads of State expressed their warm congratulations to King Mohammed VI following this historic achievement which made Morocco the first African and Arab country to reach the semi-finals of a football World Cup.
Several other leaders took to their social pages to congratulate Morocco for this epic.

The Moroccan goal in the quarter-final was scored by Youssef En-Nesyri with towering header late in the first half gave first-time quarter-finalists. Meanwhile, Atlas Lions goalkeeper Yassine Bounou has been named Man of the Morocco-Portugal quarter-final match. Bounou was hailed after his heroic performance during all the phases of the tournament.

After this historic qualification, or modern-day epic, Walid Regragui hailed his players’ sacrifice in this World Cup quarter-final against Portugal, saying “it was a difficult match against a great team from Portugal. We have suffered since this morning with the injuries of Mazraoui and Aguerd. Saiss played injured, but those who came in fought on.”

“The important thing is that Morocco is in the semi-finals. We hoisted the Moroccan flag, that of Africa and of Arab countries,” Coach Walid said smiling, adding as he often said “We haven’t done anything yet.”

Morocco started the World Cup tournament with a goalless draw against Croatia before defeating Belgium (2-0) and Canada (2-1) to take the lead of the Group F. In their fourth match, they knocked out Spain on penalties (3-0) in and now they ousted Portugal sending their fans in dreamland.

Immediately after their victory, Morocco’s fans poured onto the streets throughout the country to celebrate the historic win making the Arab World and Africa proud.
The fans sang and danced following the historic feat made in Qatar as they see Morocco edging closer to the World Cup trophy, turning dream into reality.

Morocco will face in the semi-finals the winner of the other quarterfinal scheduled this Saturday evening between France and England and why not cruise to the finals. Impossible is not Moroccan.
