Unidentified aircraft shelled army, Russian positions in town of Bossangoa – CAR
The Central African Republic, CAR, Monday said an unidentified aircraft hailing from a neighboring country pounded army positions and forces of Russian private security company Wagner in the town of Bossangoa causing material damage, Faapa news reports.
The aircraft “dropped explosives in the town of Bossangoa targeting the base of our Defense Forces, that of our Allies as well as the cotton factory” the government said in a statement.
“This aircraft, after having committed these crimes (…) took the direction of the north (…) before crossing our borders,” the statement added.
The statement fell short to finger-point any country for the incident. CAR has slid into chaos since 2013. The country, one of the world’s poorest under the leadership of President Faustin Touadera, has been fighting rebels.
The Touadera administration has contacted the service of the Kremlin-linked paramilitary group to provide training for armed and security forces in a move to keep rebels at bay.
The Russian private security company has been accused of crimes by human rights groups.
