Tunisia: Court condemns former Chief of staff of President Saied to $61-fine for defamation

The court of First Instance of Tunis condemned Wednesday Nadia Akacha, former Chief of Staff of President Kais Saied to pay TND200, $61, for defamation, in a case dating back to 2020.

Akacha had accused Mona Mouna Kraïem, a public servant, of plagiarism without evidence, Webdo Tunis reports citing the court.

The accusation came while Akacha was still in the position.

She resigned in January this year citing “fundamental disagreements” with the administration of President Saied.

The Presidential office indicated, few days after the resignation, that President Saied ended Akacha’s role – bringing the public to infer feud between the Tunisian leader and his Chief of Staff.
