Over $4m embezzled in Gabon this year – Chief of Police
Over $4 million (2.6 billion CFA) were embezzled between January and October this year in Gabon, the Chief of Police of the central African country, has revealed.
Serge Hervé Ngoma made the remark at the opening ceremony of the 28th Global Program to Fight Financial Crime, Corruption and Asset Recovery, on Monday in capital Libreville, Gabon Review reports.
The losses stem from breach of trust, fraud, embezzlement and forgery.
The event, set to close on Nov. 25 according to the head of Gabonese police, is meant to clean up the business environment in Gabon.
The central African country is ranked 124th least corrupt in the world out of 180 on Transparency International’s Corruption index 2021.
