Sahara: European Nordic Council deals hard blow to Algeria-Polisario lobbyists

The lawmakers of the Nordic Council have dealt a hard blow to the pro-polisario lobbyists paid by the Algerian junta in a bid to undermine Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its Sahara territory.

The Council, formed of MPs from Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Sweden Finland, the Faroe Islands and Åland, has rejected lately a hostile proposal put forward by Nordic Green Left Alliance to place restrictions on the import of products from the Moroccan Sahara.

During its 74th session convened in Helsinki, the Nordic Council approved a decision of its presidency refusing to drag the Nordic nations into a far way regional conflict that is handled exclusively by the United Nations.

The Council’s Presidency ignored the separatist move, preferring to focus on other foreign policy pressing issues such as security, the war in Ukraine, energy crisis and climate change.

This is another humiliating diplomatic setback for the Algerian regime which is losing credibility on the regional and international scene despite extravagant deceitful propaganda tactics.
Set up in 1952, the Nordic Council seeks to enhance cooperation between the parliamentary institutions of the Nordic countries seeking to make their region one of the most innovative and competitive in the world.

Building on shared social, political, economic and cultural values, the Council enables Nordic nations to unify their stands on challenging issues and defend their geostrategic interests at the European and international fora.
