Istanbul Bombing: Morocco’s King condemns “despicable terrorist attack”

King Mohammed VI has condemned the deadly terrorist attack that rocked over the weekend a busy shopping area in central Istanbul, killing at least six people and injuring several others.

In a condolences message sent to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the Moroccan Monarch said he was deeply saddened by this “despicable terrorist attack”, expressing his heartfelt sympathy with the bereaved families and full solidarity with the Turkish people.

The King also offered his best wishes for a quick recovery to all those who were injured in the terrorist bombing, saying Morocco fully supports & stands with the brotherly Turkish people and denounces all forms of terrorism, rejected by universal human values.

Two Moroccan women tourists are among those injured in the bomb blast which tore through a popular shopping district of Istiklal Avenue. The Sunday bombing is the deadliest attack in Turkey in more than five years, raising painful memories of the days when bombings by Kurdish and Islamic State militants often struck Turkish cities.

On Monday, Turkish authorities arrested a woman they suspect was behind the deadly bombing, saying she had been sent to Turkey from Syria by Kurdish militants to carry out the attack.

CCTV footage, released by Turkish police, showed the female suspect fleeing the scene moments before the explosion.
