Six UN peace keepers wounded in IED attack in central Mali

Six UN Peace Keepers were injured Saturday by the explosion of an improvised explosive device (IED), the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), announced on Twitter.

The mission did not provide details on the attack and the nationalities of the forces but indicated that the incidents illustrate the pervasive threat of IEDs and will not weaken the forces’ resolve.

The latest attack occurred less than a month after four Chadian soldiers, members of the mission, were killed mid-October in the explosion of an IED, in the north of Mali.

Their vehicle threaded on an IED that went off. The attack also caused injuries to two other soldiers, the mission had said then.

Since the inception in 2013 of the mission, 74 MINUSMA troops have been killed in IED attacks. A total of 179 troops of the mission have been so far killed.
