Two police officers killed in Niger’s Tillaberi region
Two police officers were killed early Monday at a checkpoint in Tamou, in Tillaberi region, South-East of Niger.
Unidentified armed men walked up to the checkpoint where the officers were posted early in the morning and shot them, Actu Niger reports citing witnesses of the attack.
The armed men reportedly hid their motorbikes in the wood.
The incident came after two other attacks in the time span of one week, in the same region that is witnessing an escalation of terrorist activities.
Last Saturday, the online media notes, an attack by unidentified gunmen claimed the lives of 12 people in the department of Banibangou, specifically on the Tizegorou-Banibangou road. In their terror, the gunmen also set fire to three trucks.
On Sunday, at least two personnel of the National Guard were killed by yet unidentified assailants who targeted the position of the Niger National Guard (GNN), which provides security at the MBanga gold mining site, located in the commune of Namaro, Kollo department, a region in state of emergency since 2007.
