Air Senegal scraps Central Africa destinations over low returns

Senegal’s national carrier, Air Senegal has announcement the suspension, from October 30, of flights to Central Africa destinations due to low financial returns.

“This decision is justified by the poor financial performance of this triangular route since its launch in March 2021,” the carrier said in a statement.

The destinations scrapped are Cotonou (Benin), Douala (Cameroon) and Libreville (Gabon).

Senegal launched Air Senegal in 2016 but the airline has been facing challenges to meet competition set by several other prominent airlines including Air France KLM SA and Turkish Airways which also serve West Africa and Central Africa destinations.

The young airline also suffered severely form the pandemic which plummeted international travelling for two years and grounded most commercial carriers.
