EU stresses Morocco’s strong commitment to cooperation on migration issues
The European Union underlined, Thursday, “the strong commitment” of Morocco to pursue dialogue and cooperation in all areas related to migration.
In its report-2022 on migration and asylum, the European Commission (EC) highlighted the cooperation between Rabat and Brussels which “confirmed a strong joint commitment to continue the dialogue and cooperation in all areas related to migration, including the regional dimension, return, Talent Partnerships and fighting migrant smuggling.”
The EC recalled the launch, last July, with Morocco of the renewed partnership on migration and the fight against people smuggling networks, noting that this partnership aims to “strengthen the legal, policy, operational and strategic frameworks in partner countries in response to migrant smuggling, and to increase the ownership, impact and long-term sustainability of their efforts”.
This partnership includes support for border management, enhanced police cooperation (including joint investigations), awareness-raising on the dangers of irregular migration, and enhanced cooperation with EU agencies.
The report also referred to the Talent Partnership initiative, which has identified Morocco as one of the key partners with which a partnership will be established.
According to the Commission, the Talent Partnerships will seek to stimulate international labor mobility and develop talent for the benefit of member states, partner countries and the business community on both sides, as well as the individuals involved.
