Colombian pilot arrested in Tangier for alleged links with drug trafficking network

The Tangier judicial police arrested, on Saturday, a Colombian national for alleged links with an international drug trafficking network operating via air routes.

The Colombian, 41, was arrested, on the basis of accurate information provided by the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), while he was hiding in a house in the medina of Tangier, said the National Police (DGSN) in a statement.

Field investigations and technical expertise have revealed the alleged involvement of the suspect in the piloting of a small aircraft that was discovered on September 20 after an emergency landing in the rural town of Hajar Al Nahl on the outskirts of Tangier, said the DGSN, noting that this aircraft have probably been used for international trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances.

A judicial investigation has been opened against the suspect to unravel all possible links with international drug trafficking networks and find all participants and associates in this criminal activity, in Morocco and abroad, in addition to identifying all the circuits of trafficking in question, including air routes.
