Morocco targets 26 million tourists by 2030

Morocco’s tourism industry is shaking off dust left by the pandemic with ambitions to attract 26 million tourists by 2030.

The announcement was made by tourism minister Fatima Zahra Ammor at a meeting with tourism professionals to elaborate a new roadmap for the sector.

The new tourism promotion plan aims to increase air links, promote investments and further diversify Morocco’s tourism offer.

She said the performance of Moroccan hospitality industry in the summer marks the return to 2019 levels.

Morocco received 13 million tourists in 2019, the year when tourism represented 7% of Moroccan GDP offering 550,000 direct jobs.

Morocco’s tourism revenues in the first half this year grew 206% to 27.3 billion dirhams signaling a steady recovery of the Covid-19 hit sector.
