Brazil seizes 481 Kg of cocaine shipment to Algeria

Brazilian authorities have foiled an attempt to smuggle out 481 kg of cocaine destined to Algeria, Spanish agency EFE reported on Monday, citing security sources.

The cocaine was concealed in 22 packages stored in an asphalt plant in the southern city of Paranaguá. An investigation was opened to identify all those responsible for this major drug haul.

This new drug’s busting operation confirms earlier reports issued by international drugs enforcement agencies saying that Algeria has become a gateway for cocaine coming from Latin America to Europe.

Few months ago, almost half a ton of cocaine was discovered floating near the Algerian port city of Oran. This shows that Algeria, a “failed State” controlled by military junta, has become a transit point for drug smugglers seeking access to lucrative European and Middle Eastern markets.

In 2018, over 700 kg of drugs were found in Algeria in a boat transporting meat from Brazil. According to some experts, Algeria has become a new route for drug cartels from Latin America in connivance with strong local partners
