Egypt to launch construction of first bus powered by natural gas in 2022

Egypt is mulling plans to start manufacturing the country’s first bus powered by natural gas in 2022, Minister of Business Sector, Hisham Tawfik announced, according to Arab Finance.

Some 70% of the local components of the buses will be manufactured to work with natural gas, Tawfik reportedly added.

The busses will accommodate 14 to 50 passengers. The goal of the project is to localize technology and transport production.

“Our strategy is to work in the production of environmentally friendly vehicles, whether they run on natural gas or electricity,” Tawfik said.

Belarusian Minsk Automobile Plant will supply production materials for the project per an agreement signed with the Arab country. Production of 250 busses every year will start by mid 2022.
