Morocco hosts Pan-African Youth Union headquarters
Pan-African Youth Union (PJU) will have its headquarters in Rabat, under an agreement initialed Thursday between the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohammed Mehdi Bensaid on the one hand, the President of the Union, Aliou Oumarou and the Secretary General of the PJU, Mr. Souleymane Satigui Sidibe, on the other.
“The Pan-African youth is very honored by the commitment of HM King Mohammed VI who has always supported the African youth, which will be with great pride in his second family, here in Morocco, “said Oumarou.
He added, in a statement to the press, that “this agreement will be ratified at the 4th Ordinary Congress of the UPJ”, which will be held on November 15 and 16 in Niamey, Niger.
For his part, Mr. Bensaid stressed the importance of this agreement, noting that King Mohammed VI has always emphasized the importance of promoting youth and pan-African youth.
“The city of Rabat will be next year the African capital of culture and we will implement programs for the benefit of youth and African youth,” said the minister, adding that the establishment of the headquarters of the UPJ in Rabat will further promote “an exchange of experiences that will be useful for the development of each country and African youth.
He also stressed the importance of presenting to pan-African youth the experiences of Morocco in the field of youth development.
In a press release, the Ministry of Youth said that “the Kingdom of Morocco welcomes the decision of the Executive Council of the Pan African Youth Union amended on November 10, 2020, providing for the transfer of its headquarters in Morocco.
The UPJ’s missions include promoting its values and principles, especially those related to peace, democracy and sustainable development in order to achieve African integration.
The UPJ is the body dedicated to the youth and its national councils to the African Union (AU)
