Tunisia: Promotion of smart investment in education to ward off extremism
Tunisia’s Premier Najla Bouden Wednesday indicated that her country is keen to make smart investment into education as part of efforts to get rid of extremism.
“Tunisia is committed to supporting smart investment in education and training, exploring alternative sources of funding, and encouraging public-private partnerships to invest in the future of our children,” she said at the UNESCO 41sth summit in Paris.
“Education has the power to change individuals and societies for the better,” she added. The speech comes amid growing concern in Tunisia about extremism in the education system.
Early this week, a 17-year student stabbed his high school History and Geography teacher. The attack was condemned by the country’s education stakeholders who held the government responsible for students’ assaults on teachers.
The UNESCO summit discussed “Investing in education – a global mobilization to prepare for the post-COVID-19 stage”.
