COVID-19: UAE donates 18 tons of medical supply to Tunisia

Tunisia received Monday 18 tons of the medical supply offered by the United Arab Emirates, UAE, to help the North African country in its fight against the covid-19 pandemic.

An aircraft loaded with protective gears for covid-19 and two artificial respirators landed in capital Tunis international airport Monday morning.

A military source told local media that another aircraft was expected to arrive in the evening on the same day.

Tunisia is reeling with a surge in the number of coronavirus contaminations.

The epidemiological situation is stable, but not reassuring, as a daily average of 1,500 new infection cases and between 20 to 30 fatalities are registered, Health Minister Faouzi Mehdi said this Tuesday.

The current epidemiological situation requires, more than ever, the respect of gesture barriers, he told the media on the fringes of a ceremony during which the Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT) donated patient transfer wheelchairs to a number of hospitals.

The ministry had announced earlier on Tuesday the registration of 1,220 infection cases and 25 fatalities on November 2, bringing the number of confirmed cases to 63,126 and of fatalities to 1,483 since the outbreak of the pandemic in February
