Moroccan writer Mahi Binebine wins Mediterranean Prize 2020

Moroccan writer, painter and sculptor Mahi Binebine has been awarded the 2020 Mediterranean prize for his latest novel “Rue du pardon” (forgiveness street).

Novelist Sylvain Coher, author of “Vaincre à Rome” and Yasmine Khlat, author of “Egypt 51” were also shortlisted for the French annual prize which rewards the best literary works.

Mahi Binebine, who has six novels under his belt, will receive the award on Oct.3 during a ceremony to be organized in Perpignan, Southern France.

During the event, Italian writer Giosuè Calaciura will be handed “the Overseas Mediterranean Prize 2020” for his novel Borgo Vecchio.

The Prix Méditerranée, which also includes the Overseas Mediterranean Prize, was established in 1984 by the Mediterranean Centre of Literature (CML) to promote cultural dialogue and exchange among Mediterranean countries.
