Morocco to edit its 2020 appropriation bill, prepares post-covid economic recovery plan

Morocco will review its 2020 appropriation bill in light of the macro-economic disruptions caused by the coronavirus and in preparation for the post-virus era, the economic monitoring committee said.

The Committee, set up to address the consequences of the virus on the economy, said in its sixth meeting it will look into the cases of 500 enterprises whose turnover was slashed between 25% and 50%.

Members of the committee-which include the government, banks and the association of Moroccan employers- said it was preparing a post-coronavirus rescue plan to beef up the economy.

The measures to be taken will be laid out in the updated appropriation bill, it said.

The committee has been meeting regularly and ushered landmark decisions including tax and loan deferral for individuals and enterprises as well as aid distribution to needy families whose source of income was halted due to the virus.

The Interior minister, Abdelouafi laftit, told MPs that so far 5.1 million households received financial assistance. These include unemployed workers of the private sector and the workers of the informal sector.
