Sahraouiya Sporting & Solidarity Event kicks off in Dakhla

Sahraouiya Sporting & Solidarity Event kicks off in Dakhla

The Moroccan southern city of Dakhla is hosting the 6th edition of the “Sahraouiya” event or Women Challenge for Solidarity, with the participation of over 100 women of various nationalities, representing more than 50 women’s associations.

The event, held under the high patronage of King Mohammed VI from Feb.6 to 15, is considered as a sporting challenge aimed at mobilizing and consolidating women’s solidarity initiatives through sport. It allows each woman involved in associative action to live a new experience, combining sport, challenge and discovery in an exceptional spot.

The event translates a commitment to social issues, and is based on the values of solidarity, mutual aid and support for associations and personalities working to achieve these objectives, according to the organizers.

As part of its openness to Africa and its partnership with the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation, teams from African countries such as Cameroon, Congo, Ghana, Rwanda, Mali and South Sudan, as well as teams from France, Switzerland, Panama and Saint Lucia, are participating in this 6th edition of the “Sahraouiya”.

This year’s edition is marked by the participation of a new and exceptional guest: journalist and sports anchor Anne-Laure Bonnet, who has been working for beIN Sports since 2013, and who represents an association for the defense of children’s social rights, also benefiting from the event’s support.

Aicha Chenna, who has endeavored for more than 30 years to assist and ensure the social integration of single mothers through her Women’s Solidarity Association, and who is the Godmother of the event since the first edition, is also present at the event.

The Association of Friends of the Pink Ribbon, which supports women with breast cancer, joined the sporting and solidarity challenge since 2016, to become one of the associations that the “Sahraouiya” supports each year through the participation of teams that represent it. Actresses, youtubers, influencers have also joined the event.

The “Sahraouiya” contributes to the promotion of women’s sport in the southern regions, through the project “Sport nature solidaire pour toutes”, carried out in partnership with the Phosboucraa foundation. This project was implemented in the form of regional workshops held respectively in Guelmim, Laâyoune and Dakhla, and enabled 150 women from the three southern regions of Morocco to benefit from an awareness program on the values of sport, citizenship and nutrition.
