UK-Africa Investment Summit: 27 Commercial Deals Sealed
The UK-Africa Investment Summit hosted by Prime Minister Boris Johnson in London on Monday highlighted by the signing of 27 commercial deals worth over £6.5 billion.
The numbers were revealed by the UK’s Department for International Development and the Department for International Trade, which have published a summary of the 27 commercial deals signed on the sidelines of the Monday summit.
The Departments say the deals demonstrate that the UK and Africa are securing a lasting commercial partnership of mutual benefit.
“The UK’s world-leading expertise on finance, technology, innovation, and our commitment to clean growth make the UK and Africa natural partners for prosperity,” the departments said.
About 15 African leaders have attended UK-Africa Investment Summit, hosted by Prime Minister Boris Johnson who is putting more focus on strengthening non-European relations, especially in Africa, as Brexit negotiations are still weighing heavily in Parliament.
Johnson used his speech before the summit to present Brexit as “a new start” for the UK and for trade with other nations.
Johnson called for deeper investment ties between Britain and Africa, as part of a drive to develop trade links after the United Kingdom leaves the European Union at the end of the month.
Johnson urged Britain to be the “investment partner of choice” for Africa.
Africa is home to 8 of the 15 fastest growing economies in the world.
