Morocco Seizes 2 Tons of Cannabis

Moroccan Customs agents have seized lately nearly two tons of cannabis in the northern city of Tetouan. The drugs were hidden in a commercial vehicle having a fake number plate.

An investigation is underway to bring to justice all those involved in this major smuggling operation.

Early January, over 13.7 tons of cannabis were seized at the Tangier-Med port. Last December, Moroccan authorities seized more than one ton of cocaine and captured seven people linked to an international criminal network specialized in trafficking cocaine between Latin America, Morocco, and Europe.

International smugglers are trying to use the strategic position of the North African Kingdom as a transit point to the European market.

The international community recognizes Morocco’s efforts and supports its policies to fight cannabis cultivation and trafficking.
