Morocco Spends over €1 mln in Support of Mosques in Spain

Morocco spent €1.4 million in support for mosques and Muslim associations in Madrid and Catalonia, Islamic affairs minister Ahmed Taoufiq said.

That amount was intended to cover the financial needs of places exclusively dedicated to worship as well as legal associations, the minister told Spanish news agency EFE.

Morocco’s support for mosques in Spain does not have a political dimension. Such financial aid is purely dedicated for worship purposes, he said.

The Minister stressed Morocco’s respect for Spain’s sovereignty adding that the Kingdom advocates the genuine moderate values of Islam that are in line with the legal framework in Spain.
