Morocco to Host Pan-African Games in 2019

Morocco will organize the 12th edition of the all-Africa games, a multi-sports pan-African event hosted every four years.

Morocco will host the event upon a request from the African Union (AU) and Equatorial Guinea’s National Olympic Committee (CNO) after the withdrawal of Equatorial Guinea, Morocco’s sports and youth ministry said in a statement.

The AU proposal for Morocco to host the event was justified by the Kingdom’s expertise in holding international sports events, said the ministry.

It added that this important continental event will be marked by the participation of more than 5,000 professional and amateur athletes competing in the Olympic and non-Olympic Games.

This will be Morocco’s first participation since 1987 as the country stopped taking part in the event after it left the predecessor of the African Union, the Organization of African Unity.
