Casablanca Mulls Launching Monorail
Casablanca city authorities are mulling the launch of a monorail or an aerial subway to help ease traffic congestion for its over 5 million inhabitants.
After the launch of the Tramway, Casablanca officials are negotiating with Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD for the launch of the Monorail or the aerial subway, which are designed to reduce pollution in cities.
Moroccan media reported that the future transport infrastructures were discussed by Industry Minister, Moulay Hafid Elalamy, and officials from BYD. The Chinese group “Build Your Dreams” has just signed an agreement with Morocco, under which it will set up a plant in Tangier for the manufacture of electric engines.
The monorail combined with the already existing tramway lines will help ease transportation inside Casablanca and its suburbs.
The company managing the Casablanca Tramway is also planning to launch the busway which will cost 50 million dirhams.
